Hong Kong, the full name of which is the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is a bustling international metropolis and the world's third-largest financial center after London and New York. It is one of the "New York-London-Hong Kong" trio.
Hong Kong is located to the east of the Pearl River Estuary, facing Shenzhen City of Guangdong Province across the Shenzhen River and bordering the South China Sea. Before 1840, Hong Kong was a small fishing village. From 1842 to 1997, it was a British colony. After World War II, Hong Kong's economy and society developed rapidly, becoming a prosperous, developed and high-quality city. In the 1980s, it became one of the "Four Asian Tigers". On July 1, 1997, China resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong.
